The war is in our backyard ...
The German reaction to the rupture of diplomatic relations carried out by Getúlio Vargas occurred in August 1942, when German submarines torpedoed and sank five Brazilian merchant ships. The attacks outraged public opinion, and Getúlio Vargas declared war on Germany that same month.
The declaration of war against the Axis caused Brazil to mobilize soldiers to be sent to the front of the battle. In November 1943, the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) was created, and soldiers from different parts of the country were summoned to form a corps of approximately 25,000 soldiers, commanded by General Mascarenhas de Morais. These soldiers were known by the name of "pracinhas".

Brazilian nurses were selected after starting their volunteering on October 9, 1943!
In this way, 67 nurses, 61 in hospital and 6 in air transport, were integrated into the FEB Health Service (4), in addition to around one thousand and three hundred doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and stretchers (5). In the same volunteering, but in a different administrative situation, six other nurses were included in the Brazilian Air Force.
... from its mobilization until the return of the war and the subsequent reinstatement in active service in 1957 ...
